LSE and Deutsche Boerse reach merger agreement

Today LSE and Deutsche Boerse confirmed what they call an industry-defining merger (LSE has it's own link). This is of course the widely expected merger between the two. Of course all the usual and expected advantages, synergies and reasons are presented. There is a mention of complementary asset classes, synergy etc.

A UK holding company has been formed called UK TopCo with a board which has equal representation is the board for both LSEG and DBAG. UK TopCo will be headquartered in both London and Frankfurt. Naturally this merger is subject to regulatory approval.

The move raises many obvious questions ranging from what the technological strategy will become, what will happen to the clearing businesses, and how well the two companies will play together.

This is not the last thing written about the topic.
